Today 5 November we are all about the first day of the cricket test match series against the Kiwis starting at the Gabba. At stumps Australia is 2/389 so you’d have to be happy with that. I have chosen to reflect test match whites, a baggy green coloured bow with a highlight red flat ribbon reminiscent of the seam of the cherry red ball given it’s a red ball game as distinct from a white ball or pink ball game. (I didn’t even know that was how the cool kids described the three forms of cricket until yesterday and was immediately intent on showing off that knowledge). I did play around with cricket bat and ball paper patterns and even tried a few looks in the national colours of Australia and New Zealand but it was way too twee. Even harassed the lovely lady at the haberdashery store for a cricket bat or ball button but to no avail. So I settled with a traditional wrap that speaks to the beginning of a summer of cricket. And even my cricket tragic husband noticed the fabulous deep colour of the green ribbon.
