Marigold FLOTUS

Today 17 January we say Happy Birthday to Michelle Obama who was born on this day in 1964 in Chicago Illinois. Plenty of things we could say about the uber smart First Lady, who is also a leading member of the famous Illinoisans, famous Capricorns, famous political wives and heads the online lists of famous Michelles.

Michelle Obama drew as much attention as her husband at his recent and final State of the Union address.

The first reason was who she was sitting next to – or not sitting next to. A statement on the White House website in advance of her husband’s speech stated “we leave one seat empty in the First Lady State of the Union Guest Box for the victims of gun violence who no longer have a voice -because they need the rest of us to speak for them”. Bravo.

The second reason was the frenzied debate about the actual colour of the elegant crepe dress by Narciso Rodriguez. Was it yellow? Was it orange? Tangerine, mustard, sunflower, saffron? My mother was adamant it was buttercup yellow. The designer himself called the colour marigold. Marigold – how marvellous. Who else could pull off marigold? Pantone 15-1164 TPX Bright Marigold perhaps? So to honour her birthday, our wrap features a marigold tile with a contrasting purple bow reflecting the purple coat she allegedly wore over the dress all set against paint swatches of different shades of yellow.
