Advance Australia Fair

Its Australia Day today and what else do you do on a public holiday but wrap a gift to take to an Australia Day Triple J Hottest 100 pool party? Something like those chocolates you bring when you’re told not to bring anything. That’s what you do.

Now this wrap presented me with somewhat of a dilemma because I wanted something v v v v Australian but I just couldn’t go the full Australia Day merchandise overload route like the British backpackers I cam across in the cheap chain store yesterday. They were loving the Australian flag umbrella hat, the flag adorned inflatable pool toy in the shape of a thong and the sequinned Australian flag slip dress and more power to them.  I was looking for something that was far less OTT.

I settled for a wrap featuring a striking reflective image of Parliament House which is supposed to be a place for all Australians though I am not sure our elected representatives always deliver in that respect. The image is from a calendar. Calendars often feature striking images that can be used as a wrap (or framed as a poster for that matter). A page from a person’s favourite magazine makes a delightfully personal wrap. I am liking the gloss paper and the colour of the sky.

I also toyed with a wrap of David Morrison who has just been announced Australian of the Year – an honour usually presented in front of Parliament House.  Had a couple of goes at a Morrison wrap but it didn’t do the wrap nor the retired army chief any justice. Still I think he’s a brilliant choice because he is committed to advancing the cause of making Australia Fair.
