On the Chinese calendar 2016 is the year of the Red Fire Monkey, starting from today 8 February and ending on Chinese New Year 27 January 2017.
The Monkey is ninth of the 12 animals in the recurring 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle. Fun monkey fact….monkey years are all multiples of 12 — from 12 AD, through 1200 AD, to 2016. But wait …there’s more…in Chinese astrology, each year is associated with a Chinese zodiac animal sign and one of the five elements Gold (Metal), Water, Wood, Fire, or Earth. Element-sign combinations come around every 60 years. It is said both the sign and element of birth year affect personality and destiny. So those of you born in 1956 will have a lot in common with the little red fire monkeys born in 2016.
There is so much to understand out Chinese astrology. I’ve reading about it for days and it’s making my head spin. First and foremost is the animal/element combo…who knew? Secondly there is the long list of do’s and don’t s. I was worried my wrap would inadvertently stray into some of the things on the don’t list, and I did not want to offend anyone. So I stuck to new year reds and golds as well as some fabulous monkeys which the light made look a little bit more orange than red but which had great shape and cheeky form.
