Under pressure

Marble is having a moment in the sun. Thank goodness the marble floor to marble wall to marble column days when too much marble was never enough are long gone. Now it’s all about marble accessories and decor and you know what that means in my world…. Marble gift wrapping paper.

I have always loved the look of marble. I would go so far as to say it’s my favourite metamorphic rock. Remember what we all learned in school…that marble forms when limestone is subjected to a lot of pressure over a long period of time. I seem to remember that the key components of marble are calcite, dolomite crystals, and aragonite and that marble is typically found among other metamorphic rock such as the wonderfully named gneiss and mica schist.

Impurities give marble its colour. In ancient times, you could tell where a piece of marble came from by its colour. I am not sure that you can tell where I bought this marble wrapping paper by the colour, but I do know it creates a wonderful contemporary look, particularly for the gentlemen. I also like the look of wrapping a number of items separately and stacking them. I’ve added in a slate (another metamorphic rock formed by shale under pressure) grey ribbon to tie it all together.
