Cinnamon is one of my favourite spices. It is sweet, warm and fragrant and it looks fabulous on gift wrapping. That’s the daily double for me. So wrappers, today it’s all about the cinnamon quill – visually striking with a wonderful scent that adds another dimension to the experience of unwrapping a gift.
Cinnamon oil is also said to exhibitantifungal, antiviral, bactericidal, and larvicidal activities. Says one Dr Schar, cinnamon is supposed to suppress the growth of scherichia coli, staphylococcus aureus, salmonella, the Asian flu virus A, echo virus, and the growth of several other gram-positive bacteria. Dr Schar’s fact sheets give cinnamon a big big medicinal tick – you be the judge.
All I know is that cinnamon quills look fabulous on gift wrapping. The quills hint at an olde world, scented winter and are a Christmas favourite – in our case today Christmas in July. I have matched my cinnamon quills with kraft paper and chiffon floaty pink ribbon to give a luxurious look – and in the absence of smellovision I can assure you the gift has a luxurious spicy scent too. I could get used to this quill thing.
