Clever finds & the Christmas Countdown

We’re on the countdown to Christmas. No doubt about it. The new season wrapping paper and the decorations are appearing in the shops complete with piped carols that seem particularly out of place in early October and the social media posts featuring Will Ferrell updating us on how many shopping days or Fridays or Saturdays till Christmas.

As a dedicated wrapper and Christmas obsessive I have been thinking about Christmas all year. I do understand those who think late September/ early October is really a little too early for the Christmas onslaught but the reality is if you love Christmas time and Christmas theming and Christmas embellishments, then getting in now will give you the pick of what’s on offer  in 2016.

The fabulous stuff, particularly the fabulous stuff that’s well priced, goes early. Case in point – I got the last gorgeous 25cm marble Christmas tree with wood base from KMart yesterday for $8. No wonder the manager said there had virtually been a riot as the little marble beauties flew off the shelves. None left online either.

Most people are way too busy to trawl through all the stores to unearth the fabulous finds for 2016 – so I will be doing it for you! Frankly, it’s my job. I will be giving my mid October review of ten of the retail chains which I will also update in late November when Halloween is well out of the way and thing are hotting up.

I will also review ten of the best independents – boutiques and gift stores which have the most fabulous of looks. Christmas wrapping, decorations and gifts don’t go off and don’t need feeding – so buy them when you see them and pop them away ready for the big reveal.

Where will I be roaming? For the big retailers I am hitting (though not necessarily in this order):

  • Ikea
  • Costco
  • Aldi
  • Myer
  • DJs
  • Target
  • Big W
  • The Reject Shop
  • Typo
  • Daiso

For the independents, my list is still evolving (it gives me an excuse to go looking) with contenders in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra as well as regional centres were there is always someone with a very clever eye for purchasing and presentation. If you can suggest somewhere I simply must review …all the better.

I am aiming to unearth the most wonderful looks for the most wonderful time of the year. I am looking for value rather than price and will not even attempt to hide my glee when I unearth a real winner that is super stylish and boxes above it weight (I again give you the KMart marble tree -you can see I am quite taken with it)…..Stay tuned.
