Christmas wrapping paper is like fashion, homewares and interior design – a mix of timeless classics and fresh looks. Classic wrapping paper is about the big four colours – red, gold, green and silver in that order. That rarely alters year to year although silver is having a 2024 resurgence! Most people have Christmas decorations, table settings and gift wrapping in these colours so new purchases fit in.

Each festive season new paper trends emerge to compliment the classics and this year four trends have taken centre stage:

1. FESTIVE PINK

Bright Pink is THE non traditional colour of 2024. Not blush, baby pink, salmon nor fluoro pink but BRIGHT pink, teamed with red and hints of gold. This is amazing given pink popped in 2023 on the coattails of Barbie core and is back better than ever.

2. ECO FABULOUS

Eco conscious consumers want eco fabulous wrapping with natural looks, fibres and feels. No flocking, nor glitter nor tinsel, nor cellophane nor coated paper. Eco Fabulous gift wrapping can be sophisticated with a French Provencial vibe with whites, cream and taupes matched with kraft brown or butchers paper and striped or linen ribbons.

3. SCANDI SENSATION

Black and White Scandi is striking on its own or paired with white or gold. The European trade fairs were full of the black and white Scandi look teamed with rich colours and textures such as marsala and velvet. Velvet is another big look from 2024 returning with force. Nothing like Velvet for a luxe feel.

4. STAMP OF APPROVAL

Stamps are quite the thing despite barely a letter being sent. Colourful postage stamp patterns and motifs, perforated edges, stamping your own paper, stamps for tags and personalised stamps as a gift . Of course there are many other festive patterns and papers out there at various price points that may tempt you for this Christmas. A final word on chain store wrapping papers though-check the weight of the paper and the amount on the roll. If the price of paper is too good to be true it’s flimsy or there isn’t much of it. That might be fine for your needs, just don’t get caught short or caught out with the corners of gifts poking through. Ripped paper is not a good trend for Christmas 2024.
